Mary Jane Seidel, 84

Mary Jane Seidel, 84, formerly of Ellwood City, died on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Majors Manor in Princeton with her children and her caregiver, Kim Majors by her side.

Born September 13, 1928 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Roy P. and Ethel May Roxbury Meehan Sr. She was married on March 3, 1951 to William W. Seidel who passed away May 29, 2005.

Mary Jane worked as a dental assistant for the late Dr. Thomas A Magee and later in life worked with her sister and sister-in-law at the Ellwood City Credit Bureau. Mary Jane was active in both church and civic service organizations in the Ellwood City area for many years. She was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and also worked with the youth of the church. Her civic participation included past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter #212 and also a member of the 3M’s, past mother advisor of the order of Rainbow Girls Ellwood City Chapter #18. Mary Jane served as co-sponsor Y-Teen organization of Lincoln High School in corporation with the YWCA of Lawrence County. She was an avid member of the Beaver Castle Girl’s Scout Advisory Board along with serving as a troop leader. Mary Jane was honored to be an active member and past President of the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary. Mary Jane served faithfully as  Judge of Election in the third ward in Ellwood City for many years. Her love for singing and gardening reflects her 35 year membership in the Ellwood City Area Civic Chorale and lifetime member of the Town and Country Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Wesley Ann (Vince) Meneice, Mary Jannet (Dr. Kurt) Dorer, both of Ellwood City; sister, Sally Greger of Carlisle; brother, James (Charmaine) Meehan of Ellwood City; and seven grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Calve, Emily, Oliver, and Abigail Dorer, and Tiah and Anthony Meneice.

She was preceded in death by a son in law, David Calve; three brothers, John, Roy Jr, and Dean Meehan; and two sisters, Thelma Meehan and Rhea Talboo.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday June 25 from 5-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Friends will also be received from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am on Wednesday at Christ Presbyterian Church. Her pastor, Rev. Tod Custer will officiate. Member of the Eastern Star will have a service at 7 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
