Dolores A. Bender, 86, of Lemon Way, Koppel died on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Johns Lutheran Care Center following an extended illness.
Born March 27, 1928 in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Freida Mackenstein Oravitz. She was married to Henry Bender who passed away October 16 2003.
Dolores was a member of the former Queen of Heaven Church in Koppel where she sang in the choir. She currently was a member of Holy Redeemer Church. She was active with the Christian Mothers Association and formerly served as an Eucharistic Minister.
Survivors include six daughters, Connie (Ray) Reeher of Wampum, Mary Jo (Tom) Dayton of Cranberry Twp., Paula (Paul) Landman of North Sewickley, Katherine Bender of Koppel, Julie (Jeff) Burke of Beaver Falls, Jane (Frank) Schwartz of Damascus, Maryland; two sons, David (Debbie) Bender of New Castle, Frederick (Charlene) Bender of Franklin Twp.; fifteen grandchildren, Sharon Williams, Adam Bender, Allison Thomas, Brett Bender, Devon Spec, Megan Bender, Sarah Dayton, Patrick Dayton, Kevin Landman, Amanda Stief, Sean Burke, Paige Burke, Nicholas, Noah and Annika Schwartz; sixteen great grandchildren; Nicholas Williams, Catherine Illig, Rebecca, Joshua, Emily, Julia, Anna, and Nathan Williams, David Bender, Cole and Eli Thomas, Charlotte and Colton Spec, Alyssa and Jake Landman, and Ryan Stief.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Charles, George, Raymond, Leonard Oravitz, and three sisters, Freda Lodge, Sister DeLellis Oravitz, and Sally Wooley and a great great granddaughter, Natalie Williams.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Friends will also be received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at Holy Redeemer Church on Monday at 10 am. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or the Ellwood City Public Library.
