Dorothy G. Shallenberger, 91, formerly of Hazen Ave., Ellwood City died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Passavant Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Born May 14, 1923 in Hillsville, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Audrey Booher Cole Sr. She was married for 58 years to James L. Shallenberger who passed away September 18, 2004.
Dorothy was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Ellwood City for many years. She enjoyed traveling and making crafts. Her most cherished time was spent with family.
Survivors include a son, Richard (Mary) Shallenberger of Ellwood City; daughter, Ronda (Douglas) Hockenberry of New Castle; daughter in law, Mildred Shallenberger of Virginia; brother, Wayne Cole Jr. of New Castle; five grandchildren, Rana Pokol, Julie Bannan, Carrie Dunn, Lindsay Ward, Alyssa Bosworth; eight great grandchildren, Andrea Taylor, Kya Guinn, Cadan Ward, Logan Bosworth, Carter and Gavin Boarley, and Trevor and Ryan Shallenberger.
She was preceded in death by son, Dennis Shallenberger, grandson, Mark Shallenberger; and three sisters, Ruth Davis, Ida Mae Plassmeyer, and Lila Carson.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 12 from 5 to 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Friends will also be received on Friday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
