Jean McWhertor, 89, of 150 Waugh Ave. Shenango on the Green in New Wilmington, formerly of Ellwood City died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Jameson Memorial Hospital.
Born March 27, 1925 in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Eleanor Philp Clark. She was married for 64 years to Harold E. McWhertor as they were married June 10, 1950. He survives and resides in New Wilmington.
During, WWII, Jean tested high octane gasoline for Pennzoil. Following the war, Mrs. McWhertor graduated from Westminster College with a Degree in Music. She worked as a public school music teacher in Cranberry and was a substitute teacher for the Ellwood City School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was the organist for 25 years. Jean was an accomplished musician and shared her love of music with many children in the area by giving private piano lessons. She was also active in the community being a member of the Ladies College Club of Ellwood City, a volunteer for the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Ellwood City Meals on Wheels program.
In addition to her husband, Harold, survivors include three sons, Thomas E. (Janice) McWhertor of Grand Rapids, MI, Daniel C. (Mary) McWhertor of Plantation, FL, Martin H. (Nanette) McWhertor of Costa Mesa, CA; daughter, Jill E. McWhertor of Costa Mesa, CA; brother, Daniel O. (Peggy) Clark of Newport Beach, CA; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visiting hours will be held Friday June 27 from 6 to 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church with her pastor Rev. James Cannistraci officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Sharon.
