Malzina E. Saunders, 89, of Zelienople, formerly of Portersville, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at UPMC Passavant – McCandlass Twp. Hospital.
Born June 7, 1925 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late John A.and Roweine Karsch Ellefson. She was married for 39 years to Frank A. Saunders who passed away December 4, 1983.
Malzina graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. She was actively involved in the class reunions throughout the years. She retired from Slippery Rock School District where she was a baker in the cafeteria. Malzina was a Charter Member and the longtime Secretary/Treasurer of the Portersville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and baking.
Survivors include four sons, Frank, John, Robert, and Rick Saunders; two daughters, Beth Bratcher, Terri Dougherty; two sisters, Roweine “Sis” Rice, Ellen Barjuca; brother, John W. “Bill” Ellefson; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City on Friday, October 3 at 11 am with Rev. Tod Custer officiating. Interment will follow in the Portersville Presbyterian Cemetery.

What a wonderful woman, she was full of wisdom, always knew what to do and the BEST Pennsylvania farm cook, candy maker and baker I’ve ever known in my life. Her mind was sharp till the end only her body gave out. We say good-bye for now, we love you and we will miss you so much our best Aunt Mal. Till we meet again. Love, Stacy
