George O. Sewall, Jr., 91, of Pittsburgh Circle, Ellwood City,Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at the Jameson Care Center following a brief illness.
Born July 13,1924, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George O. and Elmira Fleming Sewall, Sr. of Newton Falls,Ohio. He was formerly married to Mary Louise Gillespie Sewall who passed away March 26, 2011.
George was a graduate of Kent University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He practiced law for over 60 years in Ellwood City and was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Lawrence County Bar Association.
He was a Lieutenant Commander serving in WWII as a pilot. George was instrumental in the founding of the Del Mar Golf Course and the Beaver Valley Yacht Club. He belonged to the Connoquenessing Country Club and the Ellwood City Saxon Club and was a 50 year member of Lodge #462 of the Free and Accepted Masons and Leading Star Chapter #79, Order of the Eastern Star in Newton Falls,Ohio.
Surviving are his four children: Pamela (Tim) Powell and George (Sandy) Sewall, III of Ellwood City, Patricia Sewall of Malvern,Pa, and Penny (Tim) Wallis of Zionsville, IN. His seven grandchildren: Tiffany (Mike Horanski) Powell, Robert (Abby) Powell, Kaitlyn (James) Hyde, Tierney and Cara McQuaid, and Hayley and Dustin Wallis.Three great grandsons: Aidan Horanski, Preston and Evan Powell. One sister Jane Macklin of St. Louis, MO.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 1 to 4 at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Avenue, Ellwood City, PA. Military Rites and services will follow. Interment will be in the Newton Falls Cemetery in Ohio.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ellwood City Library.
