Dorothy L. Shallenberger

Dorothy L. Shallenberger, 90, of  Chewton died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on  Monday, March 26, 2012 following a short illness.

Born March 19, 1922 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Sara H. Grunden Derrow .

She was married to George H. Shallenberger for 64 years when he died on May 3, 2003.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Ellwood City Free Methodist Church.  She was a 35 year member of the Chewton Fire Department Auxiliary.  Dorothy formerly worked the Election Board for Wayne Township for many years.

Survivors include 4 daughters – Judy (Richard) Stelter, Janet Smith and her companion – James Schaas, Georgia (William) Butchelle Powell,  Lana (George) Fabian, all of Chewton; son – Charles (Diana) Shallenberger of Portersville; sister – Zelma Hahn of Austintown, OH; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 25 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Sue Shallenberger; 4 brothers – Gilbert, Harold, Willdie “Bill”, and Harry Derrow; and 5 sisters – Mary Ann Derrow, Elizabeth Derrow, Laura Jean Derrow, Beatrice Cooper, and Amanda Foust.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 29, 2012 from 4 to 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Forrest States, former pastor of the Ellwood City Free Methodist Church, Rev. Laura Skiva, pastor of the Savannah United Methodist Church, and Rev. Richard C. Nero, chaplain of Southern Care Hospice  officiating.

Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice or the Savannah United Methodist Church.
