William Edward “Bill” Shuttleworth

William Edward (Bill) Shuttleworth, 87, of Wampum died on December 17, 2020 at Heritage Valley Beaver after a brief illness.

Bill was born in Philadelphia on July 27,1933, the son of the late, William T Shuttleworth and Ruth Clara Shuttleworth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son-in-law, William J. Fleck.

Bill married the love of his life, Catherine T. Klemenz, on October 22, 1955 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Philadelphia. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. She survives.

Bill is also survived by 7 children; William J (Regina) Shuttleworth of Sarasota, FL, Kathleen A (John) Pansera, Joseph E (Kandy) Shuttleworth, Jeanne M (Charles) Shebanie and Debra A (Carmen) Mazzant all of Ellwood City, Susan L Fleck of Wampum and Anne M (Jon) Disher of Chewton, PA. 18 Grandchildren; Christine N Shuttleworth of Norfolk, VA, William J Shuttleworth of San Diego, CA, Edward G (Maureen) Hiser of South Fayette, PA, Joseph E Hiser of Westerville, OH, Andrew S (Renee) Hiser of Ellwood City, Kathryn A Hiser of Beaver, Michael J (Jamie) Shuttleworth of New Brighton, Jennifer L (Josh) DeStefano, Joseph T Shuttleworth, Lynn N (Ben) Kristophel, Frank J Pope all of Ellwood City, John J Fleck, Maria C Fleck and Matthew J Fleck all of Wampum, Deedee (Garrett) Boots of Cranberry, William S (Kaley) Evans of Hyattsville, MD, John Evans of Pittsburgh and JT (Alisa) Baldelli, USAF currently stationed in Germany.  Bill’s family includes 15 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Step-Grandchildren and 9 Step-Great-Grandchildren.

He attended Lincoln High School in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Wireless Technical School. He entered the US Navy in 1952. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Bill worked as a supervisor for Sperry-Rand. He oversaw installing the first computer in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. He continued his career as a foreman in the metallurgical industry working his way up to Plant Manager, then Manufacturing Manager including overseeing International manufacturing. During his employment, he was granted 3 United States Patents as an inventor of metallurgical measuring devices.

Bill retired in 1995 and started his own consulting firm until he formally retired in 2010.

He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Ellwood City and served in the choir and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Rod & Gun Club in Chewton and enjoyed many turkey shoots at the club.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his family while camping, boating, and fishing.

Thanks to his good friend, Sammy Schwartz, Bill provided years of funny stories, limericks and other little ditties that his family will truly miss hearing.

Private visiting hours will be held on Monday December 22, 2020 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church in Ellwood City with Reverend Father Mark Thomas officiating on Tuesday December 23 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Club Hope Foundation.
