Anne Downey, 91, of Oakland Ave. PO Box 73, Ellwood City died on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Ellwood City Hospital following an extended illness.
Born July 30, 1922 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Virginia Paolini. She was married for 37 years to Edward Downey Jr. who passed away May 26, 1985.
Anne formerly worked for Reliable and Airway Luggage. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ellwood City and a member of its Quilting Group. Anne was a longtime volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in New Castle. She enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include son, Ben Panella of Wampum; two daughters, Patty Panella Smail of Stanfield, Arizona, Gloria Port Sapienza of Ellwood City; sister, Mary Eppinger of New Castle; 8 grandchildren,Michael Mielke, Mark Mielke, Ronald Port, Robin Panella Metrea, Debra Cooper, Billie Jo Wyant, Stacey Hanna, and Sam Mielke II; twenty great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Mario Paolini.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 on Sunday May 11 at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11 am at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. James A. Cannistraci officiating. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
