Arthur Joseph Howell

Arthur Joseph Howell, 101, formerly of Ellwood City passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Naples, Florida. He had been living in Florida for the past 10 years.

Born June 20, 1914 in Ellwood City, Art was the son of the late Arthur James (AJ) and Olive (Ewing) Howell. He was married on August 2, 1941 to Rosetta Amelia Gettman who passed away in 1995.

As a young man, Arthur (Art) helped his father at Railway Express in Ellwood City. While attending Lincoln High School, Art worked at Isaly’s Ice Cream and Deli. He graduated from Lincoln High School on May 20, 1932. Art retired from US Steel in Ellwood City after 42 years as the Quality Control Supervisor in the Chemical Lab.

Art was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Ellwood City where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and he taught the senior ladies class for many years.

Art’s love of family was evident in his consistent caring, helping, and giving; a godly, yet quiet man, constant in prayer and study. As long as he was able, Art enjoyed gardening and visiting friends and family as he shared his dry sense of humor.

Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Wachob of Elizabethtown, PA; son, John Thomas Howell of Naples, Florida; grandson Gerald Lee (Chip) Wachob, Jr. and his wife Katrina (Arnold), great-grandsons Gerald Lee (Trey) Wachob III and Isaac Noah Wachob; granddaughter Leanne (Wachob) Garner and her husband James; and great-granddaughter Paige Olivia Garner.

Art is the oldest of ten and was the last surviving of his siblings: Robert Thomas, Sarah Belle (Straley), Charles Irving, William E, Donald Lee, Janet Mae, Herbert Ray, Dale A, and Carol (Lample).

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the First Christian Church in Ellwood City. Family and friends will also be received on Wednesday from 11 until the time of the funeral service at 12 pm. Interment will follow in St. Peters Cemetery in Zelienople.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home, Ellwood City.
