Audrey M. Jones

Audrey Marie (Zohosky) Jones, 90, of New Castle passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Thursday, September 27, 2018 after returning home from a trip to Pittsburgh.

Born February 26, 1928 in Chewton, she was the only child of the late Sam and Agnes Rapp Zohosky. After her mother passed away, her aunt and uncle, Elizabeth (Zohosky) and Felix Skocylas cared for her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Morgan Jones Jr. and her daughter, Robin Ann Jones.

Audrey attended Lincoln High School and Geneva College where she studied accounting to help her father manage the auto dealership he founded in the 1920’s. She loved to drive and did so her entire life. She was very active and loved working out at the pool. For many years, she enjoyed singing with the New Castle Music Club Chorus at their annual performance of Handel’s Messiah.

Audrey was a devout Catholic. She loved music and was a church organist and soloist beginning at the age of thirteen. Over the years, she played at Saint Monica, St. Joseph, Saint Phillips and James, Madonna, Saint Vitus, and Saint Mary parishes. Along with her husband, she was a founding member of the Pittsburgh Area Theatre Organ Society (PATOS) and worked restoring pipe organs including the four-manual pipe organ at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle. She was a political activist, particularly for the rights of Catholic parishioners, and an advocate for the intellectually disabled.

She is survived by her three children, William Morgan Jones III and his wife, Sherry of Cheswick, Beverly Jones of Eastlake, Ohio, and Bruce Jones of New Castle; and her beloved grandson, Jason Morgan Jones of Sharpsburg.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 6 at 1 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St. Wampum. Friends will be received one hour before the service. Final interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Pittsburgh Area Theatre Organ Society, 5356 Overland Trail, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
