Betty J. Shaffer

Betty J. Shaffer, 88, of Mercer Rd., Ellwood City (Franklin Twp.) passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at Carriage Court Assisted Living following a lengthy illness.

Born November 10, 1927 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Irene Nevin Hangst. She was married for 49 years to Robert D. “Abe” Shaffer who passed away April 14, 2002.

Betty graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. She began her 43 year career in banking with Peoples Bank. She retired in 1988 from Integra Bank as a mortgage loan manager. She was a member of the Chewton Christian Church. Betty enjoyed reading.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Smith, two grandchildren, Heather (Scott) Anderson, Adam (Rachael) Wiley; and four great grandchildren, Skylar and Haleigh Anderson and Kamryn and Kelsey Wiley.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 5 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Her pastor, Rev. Gene Hydrick will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Slippery Rock Church Cemetery Mausoleum.
