Betty Kardish

Betty Miller Kardish, 89, of Foch St., Ellwood City passed away November 5, 2016 at Northview Estates.

Born August 29, 1927 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Brenner Miller. She was married for 38 years to Adam Kardish who passed away February 18, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Richard Miller, and his wife, Johanna Miller.

Betty graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 and the Youngstown Business School. She worked at the Aetna Standard Engineering Company until its closure and then for the Borough of Ellwood City where she was a clerk stenographer in the Electric Office. Betty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a past member of their Love Circle. She was also a member and Past Matron of the Ellwood City Order of the Eastern Star # 212. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe where she had visited her father’s sister and her family in Germany. She also traveled on a 10 day excursion visiting sites in Switzerland, Holland, Austria and Germany. Betty enjoyed volunteering at the Ellwood City Hospital for many years..

Surviving are her niece and husband, Ingrid and John Rizzo, Beaver Falls, along with their son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stacey Rizzo, Gibsonia, along with her nephew John and Susan Miller and their son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Ying Miller and daughter Joy, all of Vestal, NY.

Also surviving are her loving step children, Martin and Linda Kardish, Hudson, Ohio, Annette Stancombe, Ellwood City; Steven and Sandy Kardish, Charleston, South Carolina, David and Cathy Kardish, Ellwood City, along with many step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 9 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Pastor Peggy Suhr-Barkley will officiate the services.  Ladies of the Eastern Star will have a service at 10:30 am.  Private interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
