Daniel Aldan Jr.

Daniel Aldan Jr., 90, of Hollow Rd., New Castle (Shenango Twp.) passed away peacefully Saturday, December 20, 2014 at his home following an extended illness.

Born January 20, 1924 in West Pittsburg, he was the son of the late Daniel and Christina Bogaru Aldan Sr. He was married for 67 years to Frances “Fran” Mohorich Aldan who survives.

Dan retired in 1987 after 39 years of service from D.D. Davis Construction Company in Youngstown. He was a 63 year member of the Operating Engineers Union Local # 66. Dan served in the US Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 . He was stationed in New Guinea on the USS Orange during WWII. He attended Harmony Baptist Church. Dan enjoyed fishing and spending his winters in Florida. His most cherished time was spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Fran, survivors include two sons, Daniel E. (Nancy) Aldan III of Parrish Florida, Jack A. (Rose) Aldan of Youngstown Ohio; two daughters, Suzanne “Suzie” (John) Doerr, of Parrish, Florida, Frances (Blake) Steele of Wayne Twp.; sister, Florence “Allie” (Fred “Buzz”) Stelter of Shenango Twp.; seven grandchildren, Missy Aldan, John (Nicole) Doerr IV, Krysti Sue Doerr, Kayla Aldan, Ashley Aldan, Alena Steele and Callie Steele; and one great grandchild, Kaitlyn Doerr.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Podolan, Sida “Tillie” Turnbull, Rose Zappola; and six brothers, Mike, Traean “Two Gun”, Alexander “Leek”, John “Will”, Robert “Chickie”, and George “PeeWee” Aldan.

Friends and family will be received Tuesday, December 23 from 4-7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 24 at 11 am with Pastor James Hockenberry officiating. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Harmony Baptist Church or Gateway Hospice.
