David O. Hairhoger Sr., 91, of New Beaver Boro, passed away March 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of Joseph and Wilma Vance Hairhoger and the devoted husband of Marlene Harper Hairhoger. Dave and Marlene were childhood friends whose love blossomed into a 63-year marriage, built on unwavering devotion, shared adventures, and a deep commitment to family. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and the kind of steadfast support that bound generations together.
Family was at the heart of everything Dave did. He and Marlene raised their three children close to their birthplace: David Jr., Robin (Paul) Chiappetta, and Jody Burnett. As their family grew, he embraced his role as a grandfather with the same love and dedication, cherishing his grandchildren Joshua (Mindy), Jacob (Darbi), Kayla, and Caleb Chiappetta, and Natalie (Justin) Burick. His love extended even further to his great-grandchildren, Brendan, Gavin, Madilyn, and Landon Chiappetta, and Claire and Lincoln Burick. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, watching them grow, and passing down the values of hard work, kindness, and loyalty.
Dave dedicated much of his life to public service, serving on the New Beaver Borough Council since 1976 and most recently as its President. His unwavering commitment to his community was evident in every decision he made. He took great pride in working to improve the borough he loved, ensuring a better future for the families who called it home.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Dave found peace and purpose in the woods, where he was an avid deer and turkey hunter. His passion led him westward, where he orchestrated and led friends on annual hunting trips for elk, deer, and antelope in Colorado and Wyoming. These trips were about more than just the hunt-they were about camaraderie, storytelling, and the thrill of adventure, all of which Dave relished.
Summers were spent at the family’s retreat along the Allegheny River north of Kittanning, a beloved gathering place where generations came together. Weekends were filled with boating, swimming, and water skiing, and Dave, always up for a challenge, mastered the art of trick skiing-effortlessly skiing backward to the amazement of onlookers. More than just a pastime, the river became a place of connection, laughter, and cherished traditions that continue to this day.
For 45 years, Dave was a dedicated truck driver, achieving the remarkable milestone of one million accident-free miles before his retirement. His work ethic, reliability, and pride in a job well done were values he carried in every aspect of his life, whether on the road, in the woods, or at home with his family.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Leta of Colorado, and his brother, Arthur (Carol) Hairhoger of New Castle. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph “Buster” Hairhoger and sons-in-law, Richard Burnett and Dr. Richard W. Moriarty. The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Nancy McCandless, a dear friend and companion, who brought Dave renewed joy and companionship in the years after Marlene’s passing.
Dave’s legacy is one of love, service, and adventure. He lived fully, loved deeply, and led by example, shaping the lives of those around him with his wisdom, humor, and generosity. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and the community he so faithfully served.
Friends will be received on Sunday March 9, 2025 from 1 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St. Wampum. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 am at the Funeral Home. Rev. Elizabeth Wallace will officiate. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
