David L Reese, 80, of Wayne Township. David’s life ended at his home, surrounded by the people he loved, after a lengthy illness on November 30, 2019. He was born on November 25, 1939 in Franklin Township.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Sue Hienz, and their three children, sons Eric and Sean (Tricia), of Wayne Township, and daughter Beth Anne Demas of Land O’ Lakes, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George R. Reese Sr.,Ethel Mae Reese, in-laws Andrew and Esther Hienz,his brother, George R. Reese Jr. and wife, Goldie, his sister, Dolores Burcik, and brothers-in-law, Joseph Vargo and William Niles, of Bel Air, Md.
He was a 1957 graduate of Lincoln High and a 1997 graduate of Geneva College.
He was a veteran, having served in the USArmy from 1958 to 1960 in Erlangen, Germany in the 4th Armored Division, which provided him the opportunity to visit much of Europe. He retired from the Babcock and Wilcox steel mill in Koppel after 25 years of service, and entered a new career path that would result in him becoming a Radiation Therapist. He also graduated from Geneva College during this period. He was a past member of the Society of Radiation Oncology Administrators. He retired from Forum Health in Youngstown, Ohio as a Corporate Director of Radiation Oncology Services in 2005.
He was public service minded, serving in various positions on the Ellwood Area School Board for 20 years between 1969 and 2013. He was especially proud of being able to congratulate the graduating Class of 2007 when he was president of the Ellwood Area School Board on the 50th anniversary of his own graduation from that institution. He was a long time member of the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department and served many years on the Wayne Township Water Authority. He was a past President of the Wur-Ell-Wayne Baseball Association and was active in the Go Blue football boosters club.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is also survived by grandchildren Andrew, Nicholas and Alexandra Demas of Florida, and Sarah Reese, of Philadelphia, Laura Reese of Pittsburgh and Olivia, Emma, Matthew and Simon Reese of Wayne Township.
Sisters Patricia Vargo of Franklin Township and Joan Niles of Bel Air, Maryland also survive, along with brothers-in-law Joseph Burcik, Todd Hienz, Mark Hienz (Kim) and sister -in-laws Andrea Fox, and Marcy Jubach (Bob) along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
We thank Amedisys Hospice for their exceptional service and care. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the Marshall funeral home in Ellwood City. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, December 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11a.m. at Marshalls Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. A private inurnment will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. To honor Dave, memorial contributions can be directed to the Class of 57.
