Donald Edward Boydell, 90, of Pershing St., Ellwood City passed away at sunset on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Ellwood City Hospital in the presence of his family.
Born January 12, 1928 in Connellsville, PA, he was eldest child of the late John Joseph and Florence Edith Gross Boydell. Don was married to Delores Frishkorn Boydell for more than 66 years as they were married June 16, 1951. She survives.
Don graduated from Lincoln High School and Geneva College. He was drafted into the Army, but joined the Navy, serving from 1945-1948 aboard the USS Wisconsin which was involved with the atomic testing in the Atoll Islands. Upon his discharge, Don returned to Ellwood and worked at a number of companies in the area, including US Steel, the EC Forge, and finally retiring from Halstead in Zelienople, working as company office manager and managing the Zelienople airport. He also created and operated a coal supply business for a few years in the 1950s. Following his retirement, Don worked at the Butler Auto Auction. He was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, and the Ellwood City Saxon Club. Don was a former Little League Coach. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, bowler, car mechanic and loved animals. Don was a gentle loving soul with a warm smile who always encouraged others.
In addition to his wife, Delores, survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Dr. Robert) Campbell of Coudersport, PA; son, Thomas Edward Boydell of Seattle, WA; sister, Eleanor Milbert of Zelienople; two brothers, John (Barbara) Boydell of Ellwood City, Bernard Boydell of Phoenix, AR; three grandchildren, Dr. Robert A. Campbell, Kristi L. Campbell and her fiancé, Zach Pucci, Brook E. (Cory) Meeker; two great grandchildren, Jack Campbell and Gracelyn Jo Meeker; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by a brother, James Boydell.
Friends will be received on Monday April 30 from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Christ Presbyterian Church. Rev. Sean Brubaker and Rev. Keith Black will officiate the services. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
