Doris E. Downs, 98, formerly of Franklin Twp. Ellwood City passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Jameson Care Center.

Born September 8, 1920 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Belle L. Bracken Clark . She was married to Charles H. Downs for 19 years when he passed away in 1992.

Doris graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. She retired from US Steel in 1972 following 35 years of service in the Accounting Department. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Churchy being a member of their United Methodist Women’s Society, the Quilting Group, a former Sunday School teacher, and former youth group leader. She also helped with the soup luncheons, rummage sales, and making apple dumplings. Doris volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and with the American Red Cross Blood bank drives for many years. She was a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women Association. Doris loved to quilt and her family and friends will treasure them forever.

Survivors include two step children, Charles E. (Karen) Downs of Ellwood City, and Joseph C. (Barbara) Downs of New Castle; four grandchildren, Bryan (Tracey) Downs, Eric Downs, Jennifer Downs Kercher, and Megan (Cam) McConahy; and six great grandchildren, Alex and Hunter Downs, Paul and Alayna Kercher, and Lauren and Julia McConahy; brother in law, Paul Reinheimer of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy McKinney and Joan Reinheimer

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 8 from 1 until the time of the funeral service at 3 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Rev. Angelique Bradford will officiate. Interment will follow in the North Sewickley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
