Earl J. Yost

Earl J. Yost, 94, of  Wayne Twp. passed away peacefully on  Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Jameson Care Center in Neshannock Twp.

Born September 18, 1918 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Herman Joseph and Agnes Jane Yost.  He was married for 71 years to Viola Mae Houk Yost who passed away March 14, 2009.

Mr. Yost graduated from Lincoln High School.  After graduation, he was employed in the pattern shop of Aetna Standard and was soon drafted into military service during WW II.  His tour of duty in the Army included participating in the Second Wave of the Normandy Invasion and serving in many countries of the European Theater with the 761st Field Artillery Battalion.  He was Honorably discharged with the rank of Tech 4th Grade in May of 1946.  Upon military discharge, he obtained employment at the National Tube Works of US Steel, gaining experience in various departments until its closure at which time he was one of the operators of the super drawbench that was located in the cold draw department.  Earl displayed his love for woodworking, including model building in his youth.  He eventually constructed a family home and established “Empire Pattern” a manufacturing business that supplied various wooden and many steel, brass, and aluminum patterns for use by many foundries throughout Western Pennsylvania.  Earl and his wife, Viola showed a love for animals, owning many pets: including thirteen dogs of various sizes and breeds.  In their later years, they owned three Arabian horses and took riding lessons, while building a barn on their property to house the horses.  Earl was a member of the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Joseph E. Yost of Ellwood City; two granddaughters, Lorrie (George) Lutz Jr. of New Castle, Jill L. Hart of Evans City; and three great grandchildren, Jordyn, Dyllan, and Justyn Hart all of Evans City.

In addition to his parents and wife, Viola, Earl was preceded in death by a brother, Herman P Yost, sister, Ruth J. DeCaria and a daughter in law, Sally Yost.

Visiting hours will be held on  Wednesday April 17, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 am with his pastor, Rev. Julia Williamson officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the Veteran Honor Guard.  Entombment will follow in the Slippery Rock Mausoleum.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church or the Humane Society.
