Ella Smilek, 97, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Providence Care Center.
Born August 4, 1927 in Beaver Falls she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Annie Higgens Gleeson.
Ella graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1945. She was formerly employed as a secretary at G.C. Murphy and then Mellon Bank both in Beaver Falls. In her youth she was a member of the 1st Methodist Episcopal Church in Beaver Falls until she moved to North Sewickley in 1952. She then became a member of the North Sewickley Presbyterian Church. For over 25 years she served as the secretary of the former North Sewickley Grange and as a member of the current Big Knob Grange. Ella was a member and former president of the Suburban Women's Club, a member of the Local Couples Kracsm Card Club, and a member of the former Beaver Falls Lioness Club.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn (Maureen) Smilek of Ellwood City, Neil (Tatha) Smilek of Rochester; daughter, Loreekay Franze of Ellwood City; four granddaughters, Kayla Spinola, Sharon Knott, Sheri Main, and Leah Franze; three grandsons, Christian Wetzel, and Tom and Mike Smilek; eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn Jaskolka and son-in-law Robert Franze.
Friends will be received on Sunday November 10, 2024 from 2 to 4 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday November 11, 2024 at 2 pm at the North Sewickley Presbyterian Church. Rev. Becky Kahnt will officiate. Interment will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
