Fern McKinney Hall, 92, of Shinglehouse, Pa, formerly of North Sewickley Twp. Ellwood City went home to be with her Lord on Monday, September 3, 2012.
Born January 11, 1920 in Frisco, she was the daughter of the late Stephen L. and Valdora Anderson McKinney. She was married on August 19, 1942 to the late Shermon W. Hall, who died April 1, 1996.
Fern was a member of the North Sewickley Presbyterian Church since 1943 and more recently attended the Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee, NY. She was an active member of the Ida Bell Sunday School Class, and a former Sunday School teacher. She was involved in XYZ Seniors Church Organization prior to moving to Shinglehouse with her daughter in 2004. Mrs. Hall graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1938 and Grace Martin’s Secretarial School in 1939. She had been employed at Mathews Conveyer Co, Riverside High School, Potter Township School, and Center Area School District. She was a member and past president of the Suburban Woman’s Club, the American Business Women’s Club and the Beaver County Educational Secretaries Org.
She was an avid reader until the loss of her eyesight, and then enjoyed books on tape. She loved visits from her grandchildren and was lovingly known as “Great Fernie”. She will be fondly remembered by her family for her great memories of family events and family history and her unique story telling. She was always positive and faced each new day as an adventure.
Survivors include a son, James D. Hall of Lebanon, OR; two daughters, Musa Lynne (Rev. Martin) Bovee of Spring Grove, PA, Valli Kim (Kenneth) Martin of Shinglehouse, PA; four granddaughters – Erin Kim (Reuben) Martin-Green of Columbus, OH, Stephanie Lynne (Darren) Norton of Shinglehouse, PA, Amanda Arlene Hall of Plumas Lake, CA, Elizabeth Valli Bovee of Philadelphia, PA; two great-granddaughters, Myleena Keir Norton, Novalie Joy Norton; and a great-grandson – Drayden Kenneth Norton, all of Shinglehouse, PA.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Shermon in June 2011, sister, Musetta Hannon, and three brothers, Clair, Jack and Ted McKinney.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 7 from 6-8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City,.
Funeral Services will be held at the North Sewickley Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 10 am with Mrs. Hall’s son in law, Rev. Martin Bovee officiating.
Interment will follow in the Lillyville Church of God Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Carnegie Library for the Blind, Meals on Wheels, both in Fombell, and Allegany County, NY, Charles Cole memorial Hospice, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
