Frank J. Wehman

Frank J. Wehman, 75, of Ellwood City passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Passavant Lutheran Senior Life in Zelienople.

Born August 30, 1941 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Alvi Charles Wehman and Violet M. Wiley Luchka. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph H. and Michael Wehman, his sister, Sherry L. Weigel, and step brothers, Donald and Richard Pitts, and step sister, Loretta Marshall.

Frank attended Lincoln High School and left to join the Navy at the age of 17. Upon returning home from service, he worked at B & W Steel Mill and later went on to be an over the road truck driver where he enjoyed traveling coast to coast. Frank cut grass like it was a hobby, always making sure the lines were just right on the lawn. His gardens often grew beyond their confines and flowers were never optional. A day cutting wood was considered fun and building the bonfire after was a treat. Frank took great joy in photography and his favorite subjects were his grandchildren and nature. He had a lifelong love of Indian artifacts and often searched for fresh plowed fields to find his treasures of arrowheads and tools. Frank was an avid pool player and often offered to play one handed in order to give his opponents a fair chance. He was a member of the Ellwood City Moose and the men’s pool team. Frank also enjoyed his morning coffee meetings at McDonald’s, just listen for laughter…that’s the table where you’d find him.

Frank is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carol I. Wehman; three children, Sara Jay (Michael) Shodd of Ellwood City, Laura A. (David) Fullerton of Cambridge Spring, PA, Matthew A. (Dawn) Wehman of Ellwood City; and step daughter, Shannon I. (John) Taylor of Aliquippa; one sister, Kandace L. (Matthew) Masula of Summerville, SC; one brother, Theodore A. (Pam) Wehman of Ellwood City along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday November 15 from 3 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Officiating will be Chas Schaeffer. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.  An informal celebration of Frank’s life will be had on Wednesday at 7 pm at the Ellwood City Moose Club.
