Frederick M. Bender

Frederick “Yardbird” M. Bender , 69, of Bender Lane, Marienville (formerly of Ellwood City) passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Butler.

Born April 25, 1947 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Frederick M and Alberta Swoger Bender Sr. He was married to Judy Newton Bender who passed away in 2012.

Fred retired in 2002 from Calgon (now NALCO) following 33 years of service. He began working in 1969. He attended Lincoln High School, leaving early to enlist in the Army where he served in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge, Fred returned and received his GED. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include three sons, Tom L. (Heidi) Beeler of Ellwood City, Tim Beeler of New Castle, David (Kari) Bender of Fombell; sister, Geraldine (Everett) Bleakney of Ellwood City; and seven grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday October 24,from 2-4 and 6 until the time of the funeral service at 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Pastor Calvin L. Cummings of Providence Baptist Church will officiate.

Interment will follow in Slippery Rock Church Cemetery.
