Frederick W. Deitrick

Frederick W. Deitrick, 93, formerly of Main St. Wampum, currently residing at Beaver Meadows in Brighton Twp. passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born August 29, 1921 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Frederick Adolph and Jeanette McAfee Deitrick. He was married for 52 years to Emelene L. Cini Deitrick who passed away May 6, 2003.

Fred graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1940. He served in the European Theatre with the US Army during WW II, For his heroic service he received a purple heart and three bronze stars. He was a lifelong member of the Wampum American Legion Post 749. Fred retired in 1983 from Babcock and Wilcox in the special metals division. He was a member of the former St. Monica Church in Wampum and a current member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Ellwood City. Fred’s most cherished time was spent with his family.

Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Dr. Mark (Susan) Deitrick of Beaver; a daughter, Marianne Turner of New Brighton; five grandchildren, Sarah (Bryan) Mullen, Richie Turner, Mark J. Deitrick, Michael Deitrick, and Katherine Ann Deitrick; two great grandchildren, Jenna and Lauren Mullen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Fred in 1968. The last of his family, he was also preceded in death by six sisters, Madeline Kennedy, Clarabell Caccia, Garnett Wehman, Dorothy Ippolito, Elizabeth Bonzo, and Alice Strohecker.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 am at Holy Redeemer Church in Ellwood City. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
