Garnet C. Hazen Wehman

Garnet C. Hazen  Wehman, 93, of Ellwood City,  died on  Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Jameson Care Center in New Castle.

Born August 25, 1918 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Jeanette McAfee Deitrick.  Mrs. Wehman was married in 1941 to the late Chester J. Hazen, who died in 1965 and then married in 1974 to the late Robert L. Wehman who died in 2003.

Mrs. Wehman was a lifelong resident of Ellwood City where she graduated from Lincoln High School.  She actively volunteered in many community groups including: Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Y-Teen Council, and Lighthouse for the Blind.  She was a member of the Park Gate Baptist Church where she served as a trustee.  Garnet spent 18 winters in Bradenton, Florida, where she helped to organize Ellwood City Day for 10 years and was a member of the Golf Lakes Choir.

Survivors include a son – Ralph Hazen; two daughters – Joyce Demarco, Elaine Brock; a brother – Frederick Deitrick of; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, a step-daughter, Donna Bingle, and a grandson, Robbie Hazen.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 pm on  Sunday July 22, 2012 at the Marshall Funeral Home, Inc. 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 23, at the funeral home at 1:30 pm with her pastor, Rev. David Childs officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Mrs. Wehman’s name to Park Gate Baptist Church or the Ellwood City Public Library.
