George F. Murphy

George F. Murphy, 75, of Old Rt 18, Wampum (New Beaver Boro) died on  Monday, July 23, 2012 at the his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born February 12, 1937 in Chewton, he was the son of the late John Murphy and Edith Clark Murphy of New Castle.  He was married for 51 years to Shirley Haines Murphy as they were married on July 26, 1960.  She survives.

George retired from Babcock and Wilcox.  Following his retirement, he worked at Stonecrest Golf Course.  A Veteran of the Army, George served during the Berlin Crisis and the Vietnam Conflict.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, and mother, Edith,  survivors include 2 daughters – Donna (David) Lambert of NC, Diane (Bruce) Marich of Enon Valley; 2 sons – Jim Murphy of Wampum, Michael Murphy of New Castle; six sisters – Mary Beckman of Pulaski, Johana VanKirk of North Lime, OH, Sandy Murphy of New Galilee, Carol (Dick) Householder of Mt. Joy, PA, Betty (Barry) Hinchliffe of Salem, OH, Barbara (Merle) Dando of New Castle; three brothers – Jack Murphy of Las Vegas, Charles (Mui) Murphy of New Castle, Tyrone (Peggy) Murphy of Haverhill, MA; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, a sister – Shirley Blake, and two brothers – Patrick and Tim Murphy.

Visiting hours will be held on  Thursday,  July 26 from 2-4 and 6- 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday  at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. William R. McGary of the Wampum Presbyterian Church  officiating.

Interment will follow in Grand View Cemetery.  Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.
