George T. Patterson

George T. Patterson, Jr. passed away peacefully at home at 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 20th, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at his bedside.

George was born on February 25th, 1927 in Ellwood City to the late Cevilla (McDanel) and George T. Patterson, Sr. He attended Lincoln High School and left before graduation to join the United States Marine Corps. While in the Third Marine Division from 1944-45, he was stationed in the South Pacific.

George was a hard working service-minded person and was a devoted Volunteer Firefighter serving as Captain in the Ellwood City Fire Department and Rescue Squad for 38 years and continued to serve in a support role until his death. He was a lifelong member of Masonic Org. #599 from 1956.

George began working at the age of 12 as a pin boy at a local bowling alley, then as a teenager, began his first mill job at U.S. Steel. George worked at Glass Products Inc. from 1948-1965 and served as a foreman. George got his G.E.D. and went on to become a Draftsman for Matthews Conveyer 1965-1974, Aetna Standard 1974-1986, and Ryman Engineering 1976-1993.

George retired and moved to Largo, Florida for several years with his wife Connie where he enjoyed golf, life, dancing and friends. He was an avid bowler and loved shooting pool with friends. He was an Election Constable for Ellwood City 4th Precinct for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Constance (Porter) Patterson of Ellwood City; two daughters and sons in law, Kelly Patterson (Victor) Novak of Roseville, California and Erin Patterson (R.J.) Thomas of Ellwood City, and a son Tyre Porter Patterson of Ellwood City; a brother, Chuck Patterson of Ellwood City; four grandchildren, Leslie Fatula Glenn, Nicholas Fatula, Shawna Patterson Geminani, Tyre “TJ” Patterson; five great-grandchildren, William and Constance Glenn, Zoe and Dante Geminani, and Teegan Patterson; and many nieces and nephews; special family members who flew in to be with George and his family are sister-in-law Gail (Porter) Massey of New Mexico and niece Taylor Pringle of Colorado.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by three siblings, David Patterson, Thelma Jean “Teep” LaRitz and Robert Patterson, all of Ellwood City.

Memorial visiting hours will be a celebration of George’s life and will be held on Thursday, May, 24th 2012 from 4 to 6 at MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.
