Gerald E. Hairhoger Sr., 96, of Wampum New Galilee Rd., New Beaver Boro passed away surrounded by his loving family Saturday, October 29, 2016 at his residence following a short illness.
A lifelong resident of New Beaver Boro, Gerald was born April 8, 1920 to the late David “Pup” and Hannah Hilton Hairhoger. He was married for 50 years to Clara VanTassel Hairhoger who passed away in 1992.
Gerald began his working career at the Hairhoger Coal Mine in New Beaver. He then worked until his retirement in 1986 for the Ellwood Works of US Steel where he was a millwright. Gerald then worked at Commercial Machine in Ellwood City for a number of years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chewton. Gerald was an active member and former President of the New Beaver Boro Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, boating, and snowmobiling.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald E. Hairhoger Jr. of New Beaver Boro, Larry L. Hairhoger of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Phyllis A. Milliken of New Beaver Boro; six grandchildren, one step grandson; thirteen great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
The last of his family, Gerald was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. He was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Shanna Hairhoger LaPelusa and Kendra Keith, and a great grandson, Alex.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Nov 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 am with his pastor, Rev. Eric Board officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
