At approximately 6:30 am, Thursday morning November 4, 2021, at UPMC Passavant Hospital, Giorgina’s Guardian Angel swept away her spirit and soul into heaven to be reunited into the loving bosom of her family members, who preceded her in death; Mother Violet Tomeo, Father Anthony Tomeo and younger Brother Carmine Tomeo. She was married to her husband Louis for almost 50 years, and they resided in Ellwood City.
Giorgina was born on February 3, 1948 in Ellwood City and at the time of her death was 73 years old. She touched the lives of many people with her generosity, kindness and positive attitude of life and thought by those who loved her, me, her husband Louis, including three daughters: twins Michaela (Sbarro) Enlund residing in Florida, Elana Sbarro also in Florida and part time in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Carmin (Sbarro)Minnaugh in Pittsburgh; two brothers, Mark Tomeo of Pittsburgh and Anthony Tomeo, Jr in New Castle; one surviving aunt and uncle, Sandy and Tony Zona of New Castle, three grandchildren William and Micheline Enlund in Florida and Patrick John Minnaugh of Pittsburgh; two son-in-laws, Bill Enlund and Patrick Minnaugh ; one sister-in-law Eileen (Seng) Tomeo, many nieces, nephews, cousins , and close friends agree she left us to soon, yet she knows we’ll carry on her legacy.
Giorgina was an Elementary School Teacher for many years where she molded young minds for the future. But most of all her calling was to be a mother. She loved being a mother and used her teaching skills to raise our three daughters and taught me how to be a better father. Giorgina relished being with her girls. She had flair and an uncanny ability to stay one step ahead of our daughters. Her favorite line, look me in the eyes and before you answer my question, think very carefully. The looks on their faces was priceless, and the thoughts running through their minds was how did she know. By the way, she did that to me too! As Mister Rogers would attest, “you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool mom.” When our grandchildren would do something they weren’t supposed to be doing, she’d wag her forefinger, say ah ah, in a soft but firm voice, they’d look up wide eyed and stop in their tracks. Her philosophy, get down on their level, talk to them and keep repeating the same thing over and over until they get it. Try it, it works.
She was also what I called a mini hoarder of memorabilia and anything family, but she had a system that worked for her, not so much for me! Next Friday, November 12th in the late afternoon stop by our house and I’ll show you but make sure to bring a large shopping bag, because you won’t go away empty handed.
Family and friends will be received at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave, Ellwood City, PA from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday November 11th 2021 to celebrate her life, and the following day a Christian Mass at 10:00 am, Friday November 12, 2021 at the Holy Redeemer Parish, located on 4th in Elwood City, PA.
In lieu of flowers Giorgina would appreciate any kind of donation to her favorite charities; St. Joseph Indian School, PO Box 300, Chamberlain, SD, 57325, The Humane Society of the United States located in Washington, DC, The City Rescue Mission of New Castle, Habitat for Humanity Administrative Headquarters in Atlanta, GA and the Angel Fund for Holy Redeemer Parish.
