Gladys I. Walker, 101, of Northview Estates in Ellwood City died Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Ellwood City Hospital following an extended illness.

Born January 27, 1913 in Castlewood, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Katie Rose Weimer Houk. She was married on December 20, 1940 to Frank H. Walker who passed away November 4, 1994.

Mrs. Walker graduated in 1935 from Slippery Rock State Teachers College with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. She retired in 1975 following a 38 year career as a teacher in the Shenango Area School District. She was a member of the Pa Association of School Retirees, Lawrence Co Chapter and the State Association. She was also a 50 year member of the Eastern Star # 212 in Ellwood City. Mrs. Walker was an active member of the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and she also belonged to the Woman’s Organization since it began in 1956.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews

The last of her family she was preceded in death by five sisters, Elma L. Cole, Flora Mae Mockel, Irene Yoho, Kathleen Houk, Ethel Mann, two brothers, Clifford G. and Donald R. Houk.

Friends will be received on Friday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am at the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. Her pastor, Rev. Julia Williamson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Slippery Rock Church Cemetery.

Arrangement have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home, Ellwood City.
