Guy J. Bennett, 88, of Fairlane Drive, Ellwood City died on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Golden Hill Nursing Center following an extended illness.

Born January 27, 1924 in Wampum,he was the son of the late Silvio and Bertha Nasuti Bennett.  He was married for 44 years to Susan E. Hollinback Bennett, who survives.

Guy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942,  then attended Kent State University for two years before entering the service. He served in the Army during WW II from July 1943 to February 1946 as a Corporal in the 15th Airborne Glider Battalion and the 174th Infantry.  Upon return from active duty, Guy graduated from Geneva College in 1949.  He was a member of the former Queen of Heaven Church in Wampum where he served as an usher for many years.  He was currently a member of Holy Redeemer Church in Ellwood City.  Guy retired from Medusa Cement Co in May of 1986 as an assistant administrator in the personnel department.   He had previously been employed with Chromica Corporation in New York City as a sales representative.  Mr. Bennett was the owner and editor of the former weekly newssheet “Wampum Advertiser”.  He was a charter member of the Wampum Lions Club and a member of the American Legion Post 749.  He was a former Dale Carnegie teaching assistant at the New Castle YMCA.   An avid golfer, Guy was a former member of the Connoquenessing Country Club.  He also golfed with the Wampum Seniors and the Medusa Southdown Cementers League.

In addition to his wife, Susan, survivors include a son – Dr. David Guy Bennett, Esq. and his wife Kimberly Law Bennett, Esq. of Macungie, PA; brother – Ralph (Jane) Bennett of Baden, PA;  two sisters in law – Theresa and Eleanor Bennett; and two grandchildren – Ryan and Sydney Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Francis L. Bennett  and Silvio Bennett Jr.; and a sister and brother in law Lucille and Joseph Arcieri.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 on  Wednesday July 18, 2012 at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church on July 19, 2012 at 10:00 am with Rev. Father Louis Pascazi officiating.

Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery where military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.
