Harlie B. Dunham

Harlie B. Dunham, 92, formerly of Monroeville and Ellwood City died on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care Home in New Wilmington.

Born January 18, 1922 in Sistersville, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Marcus and Rose Clark Dunham of Wellsburg.

He was married to the late Eleanor Scott Dunham who passed away January 20, 2014. They celebrated 71 years of marriage on October 16, 2013.

Harlie graduated from Wellsburg High School in West Virginia and from Alderson-Broaddus College. He served as a corporal in the US Army-Air Force during WWII where he was stationed at the Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. Following the war, he moved back to West Virginia where he served as the Secretary at the YMCA in Grafton.. He and his wife then moved to Bethany where he taught history, and was the basketball and baseball coach at Bethany High School. Harlie then became the Building and Grounds Superintendent at Bethany College. During his time in Bethany, he was active in the community, serving as the Fire Chief, Chief of Police, and Mayor. He also played Santa for a number of years for community events. After moving to the Monroeville Area, Harlie was the Building and Maintenance Director for the Gateway School District until this retirement in 1992. Harlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcrafts, and he was the neighborhood “Mr. Fix It”.

Survivors include two daughters, Deloris “Lori” Dunham and her husband, Connie MacDonald of Ellwood City, Mindy Anderson and her husband, William of Levittown, PA; a brother, Marcus (JoAnn) Dunham Jr. of Cedar Bluff, Virginia; a grandson, Eric Anderson of Levittown; and a great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Anderson.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Dunham and Lois Hoover.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday October 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held at the Calvin Presbyterian Church on Monday at 10:30 am with Pastor Sean Brubaker officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
