Harold James Young

Harold James Young, 97, formerly of Line Ave., Ellwood City passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Evergreen Nursing Center following a brief illness.

Born April 1, 1917 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late William and Olive Mae Barnnet Young. He was married to on August 27, 1939 to Sara I. Eiler Young who passed away January 26, 2009.

Mr. Young graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937. He retired in 1974 after 33 years of service working as a clerk for US Steel in Ellwood City. Harold served in the Navy as a Petty Officer during WWII. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Ellwood City. Harold was the Vice President of the Local 1220 for 6 years. He was also a member of the Ellwood City School Board for 6 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Olivia Lyons (Larry Sten) of Washington, PA, Sarena R. Wheeler of Ellwood City; son, John (Cindy) Young of Cambridge Spring, PA; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Duncan. The last of his family, he was also preceded in death by four sisters, Martha Heisner, Bertha Brenneman, Ann Connor, Etta Weyman and three brothers, George, William and Milton Young.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 22 from 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Friends will also be received at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am on Friday. Military service will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Middle Lancaster, PA.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission in New Castle.
