Harold S. Stratton

Harold S. Stratton, 89, of Ellwood City died February 23, 2014 at his home following a short illness.

Born in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Richard and Edna Sloan Stratton. He was first married to Catherine Long Stratton who passed away in 1985. He then married Ernestine Wilson Hanna Stratton who survives.

Harold retired from the Ellwood City Forge. He had also worked at US Steel and Haines Petroleum. He was affiliated with and a former deacon at the Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church. A WWII veteran of the US Army, Harold received a purple heart for wounds received while serving in the European Theatre. In 2011 Harold and his brother Royal were given Congressional Commendations for their service. Harold enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was known as a man that could fix anything.

In addition to his wife, Ernestine, survivors include two daughters, Elaine (David) Johnson of Binghamton, NY, Debbie (Ronald) Brown of Pleasant Hills, PA; three step daughters, Karen (Charles) Hanna Woods of Harrison City, PA, Amy (Richard) Hanna Wolfe of Fombell, Debbie (Kreig) Hanna Rugh of Carlisle, PA; a step son, Timothy (Tiffany) Hanna of Green Bay, WI; two sisters, Ruth Steckman of Ellwood City, Ada Hinkle of Portersville; twelve grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew (Chelsie) Johnson, Elizabeth and Michael Brown, Matthew and Ryan Woods, Brendan and Lindsey Wolfe, Clayton and Eve Hanna, Erin and Ethan Rugh; and two great grandchildren , Lukas Brown and Hailey Johnson.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Royal, Leighton, and Richard Stratton, and a sister, Mary Katherine Gossett.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday February 26 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City conducted by his pastor Rev Dr. Daniel Stinson.

Interment will follow in the Wurtemburg Cemetery. Military Rites will be observed by the Veterans Honor Guard.
