Helen E. Swogger

Helen E. Swogger, 83, of Swogger Lane, New Beaver Boro passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 following an extended illness.

Born May 29, 1934 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Earl S. and Effie Clingerman Jay. She was married for 60 years to John Ralph Swogger who passed away June 29, 2012.

Helen graduated from Wampum High School with the Class of 1952. She could sew anything. Helen had the ability to turn any idea into reality. Through the years she created one of a kind wedding gowns, mother of the bride and bridesmaids dresses, prom gowns, along with children’s apparel. She did everything on a limited budget and made every customer feel beautiful. Her creativity carried over into her home as she loved changing decorations for every season. What she did best was make you feel important and loved. She enjoyed county music, watching Christmas movies, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy (David) Arner of Brook Park, Ohio, Trudi (David) Nottingham of Wampum and Gayle (Jeffrey) Smith, both of Wampum; two sons, Eric Swogger of Homewood, Erin “Guzz” Swogger of Wampum; three brothers, Mearle, Elmer “Butch”, and Gary “Pudge” Jay; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Vada Yagersky, Carrie Shea, Edith Preisel, Ethel Dennis; and three brothers, Guy, Arthur, and Elbert Jay.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, September 23 at the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church for visitation from 1 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 4:30 pm.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Jay Fund in care of Michele Beichner, 150 North School St. Shippenville, PA 16254.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home, Wampum. Online condolences may be sent to marshallsfh.com.
