On Saturday, July 6, 2013, after a long and full life, Helen Mae Newton was called home to her heavenly father. She passed away at her home in Chippewa Township, PA with her daughter by her side. She was 92 years old.
The fourth of nine children, Helen Lucas was born on April 1, 1921, in Coal Bluff, PA. Her parents were the late George and Marie Anna Yosina Lucas. Her brothers, George, Michael, Andrew, Frank and John Lucas and sisters, Anna Albert, Margaret Minett and Mary Vucenovich have preceded her in death. At the age of 20, she married Charles Leroy Newton who passed away in 1993.
She was the mother of six children and a homemaker, as well as contributing to the war effort by making artillery shells during WWII. She loved yard sales, shopping at Wal-mart, scratch off tickets and collecting angel figurines. She was also especially fond of spending time with her grandson and granddaughter, Brian and Melissa Trevelline.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Jean Hill in 1985. Her surviving children are her daughter, Patricia Trevelline of Chippewa Twp, and her four sons, Kenneth Newton of Butler, Ronald Newton of Beaver Falls, Dave Newton of Ellwood City, and Charles Newton of Beaver Falls. In addition to her children, she is survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service to celebrate her life was held on Tuesday July 9 at the Marshall Funeral Home in Ellwood City. Helen was laid to rest in the Slippery Rock Church Cemetery alongside her husband.
