Herman Herko

Herman Herko, 91, of Crescent Ave., Ellwood City passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Butler Veterans Hospice House following a brief illness.

Born April 7, 1923 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late George and Helena Herbst Herko. He was married for 61 years to Leona I Parish Herko who passed away October 5, 2006.

Herman graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941. He served in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Normandy and in Germany. He was awarded six bronze stars. He retired in 1981 from Babcock and Wilcox in Beaver Falls. Herman was the Eastville Chief of Police for 17 years. He enjoyed watching football.

Survivors include four sons, Harry (Diana) Herko of Wampum, Frank Herko of Ellwood City, Chuck (Cindy) Herko of Las Vegas, Nevada, John Herko of Frederick, Maryland; daughter, Debi Baldwin of Ellwood City; sister, Ann Lumley of Florida; sister in law, Anna Herko Hazen of Ellwood City; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Herko on October 16, 2014 and a granddaughter, Stephanie Herko.

Visiting hours will be held Monday December 29, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
