Ida E. Martsolf

Ida E. Martsolf, 95, of Moravia Rd, Enon Valley, North Beaver Township died on  Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the Jameson Memorial Hospital.

Born April 11, 1917 in New Galilee, PA,  she was the daughter of the late Ed and Hazel M. Kerr Beatty .

She was married to Clyde  Martsolf on June 26, 1945.

He died on May 3, 1960.

Ida graduated from Geneva College and  began her teaching career at the one room Calhoun School.  She continued at the West Bridgewater School, then she took time from teaching  to raise her family.  She began teaching again in Crestview Ohio, and retired from the Springfield Local School District, New Springfield Ohio, where she taught in the elementary school.

She was an active member of the Bethel United Presbyterian Church, the Mizpah Sunday School class, and the Lois Haspels Missionary Circle, which was named for her sister.

After retirement her interests were traveling on bus tours, bowling, and walking. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great granchildren, and she especially loved to read.

She was formerly an active Cub Scout leader.  Ida was known for her leadership in promoting acts of kindness in the community.  Her hospitality and generosity were well known, as her home was always inviting and open to all.

Survivors include her children, Ed and Jennifer Martsolf (Arkansas) Betty and John Scott (Enon Valley)  Fred and Pam Martsolf (Enon Valley)  12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son Allan Martsolf,  3 sisters – Alice Bell Beatty, Edna  Beatty, Lois Haspels; and 2 brothers – Mate and Bill Beatty.

Visiting hours will be held on  Saturday July 7, 2012 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Bethel United Presbyterian Church, Enon Valley where her funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm with her pastor, Rev. Mark A. Tippin officiating.

Interment will follow in the Rocky Springs Cemetery, New Galilee.

Memorial Contributions may be made to New Castle Public Library “Books By Mail” program 207 E. North St. New Castle, Pa. 16101, or to the Mission Fund at the Bethel Church.
