Jack Leonard Yoho

Jack Leonard Yoho, 92, former Ellwood City resident died on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Jacksonville, Florida after a long illness.

Born July 11, 1921 in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late John Leonard and Vera Hawk Yoho. He was married on July 20, 1939 to his beloved wife, the late Ruth Winifred Johnston Yoho. They had celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Jack graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1939. He was a member of the Masonic DeMolay throughout his high school years. Jack was employed at the Ellwood City Forge as a precision grinder and retired as a Chief Inspector in the 1980’s. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe, where he was wounded. After a long recovery at the Valley Forge Military Hospital, he was discharged and received a Purple Heart for his service. A fifty year volunteer at the Butler Valley Medical Center, Jack served as a Veterans Administration Volunteer Service representative for the Lawrence County 112 Disabled American Veterans, for whom he also served as Commander and Adjutant. He was also a member of the local VFW and American Legion. Jack was a past Grand Marshall for the Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade. He also served on the After Prom Committee. Jack and his wife were recognized for community service.He was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church since 1947, where he served as an elder, former deacon and member of the Mariners group. He enjoyed family first, golf and traveling. One annual destination for travel was to the 13th Regiment 8th Army Division reunions held in many eastern United States cities.

He is survived by two sons and daughters in-law, Kenneth and Donna Yoho of Youngstown, Ohio, John and Marie Yoho of Jacksonville, Florida; two daughters and sons in law, Carol and Ronald Tankersley of Haines City, Florida, Cynthia and Louis Reda of Augusta, Georgia, sister, Vivian Yoho Linta of Beaver Falls, and long time companion, Barbara Spivey of Jacksonville, Florida. He was a cherished grandfather of Melissa, Kenneth, Jennifer, Jeff, Michael, Dax, Todd, Susan, Ronald, Donna, Renee and Rebecca and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Yoho Helt and two grandsons, Mark Bell in 1992 and Jayce Yoho in 2003.

Friends will be received on Sunday August 4, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon Monday at the Calvin Presbyterian Church with Pastor Sean Brubaker officiating. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
