Jacob A. Ippolito

Jacob A. Ippolito, 93, of Clyde St., Wampum died on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Ellwood City Hospital following a brief illness.

Born August 29, 1920 in Wampum, he was the son of the late Jacob A. and Amelia Altieri Ippolito Sr. He was married for 71 years to Betty J. Powell Ippolito as they were married January 13, 1943. She survives.

Jake graduated from Wampum High School in 1938. Prior to his enlistment, Jake worked at Curtis Wright Aircrafts in Beaver. He served his country in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Lynx in the Pacific Theatre. Upon his return, Jake worked and retired from the Eastworks of Babcock and Wilcox where he was a foreman. He was a member of the former St Monica’s Church in Wampum. He was active in many civic organizations, including being a charter member and past president of the Wampum Area Lions Club, former member of the Wampum Boro Council, charter member and past commander of the Wampum American Legion Post #749, and the Chewton White Eagles. He enjoyed golf and was an avid Pirate Fan.

In addition to his wife, Betty survivors include a son, Milton (Karen) Ippolito, two grandchildren, Mark Ippolito, Lisa Ippolito; twin great-grandchildren, Jacob & Tyler Glavan all of Wampum.

He was preceded in death by son, Dennis Ippolito on March 2, 1967; five sisters, Mary Ann Ippolito, Josephine Enterline, Margaret Plink, Nell MacDonald, Virginia Adamo; and four brothers, Harrison, Robert, Richard and Francis Ippolito.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at Holy Redeemer Church at 10 am. Military rites will be conducted by the Veteran’s Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
