James Joseph Curry

James Joseph Curry, 44, of New Beaver Boro, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at his residence following a courageous five year battle with cancer.

Born March 31, 1970 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the Bertram Joseph Curry of Pittsburgh and the late Dorothy Ann Drab Curry. He married Sandra Edwards Curry on September 18, 2010, she survives.

Jim graduated from Woodland Hills High School in 1988. He then attended the Allegheny County Fire Academy. He also graduated from the New Castle School of Trades Commercial Industrial Maintenance Program in 2012. While residing in Pittsburgh, he was a member of the North Braddock Fire Department. After moving to New Beaver Boro in 2010, he became very active with their Fire Department having served as its president from 2012 until now. Jimmy was actively employed since 1999 as a security guard at the Diocese of Pittsburgh and Verizon Wireless in Cranberry. He attended the Bridgewater United Methodist Church and the Victory Christian Center in Columbiana. Jim loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also loved to travel. He absolutely loved helping friends and family. Jimmy will always be remembered for having a smile on his face, his jokes, his laugh, and his funny stories. He also enjoyed baking, cooking, the Irish Community and WWE wrestling.

In addition to his wife, Sandra, survivors include his father and step-mother, Bertram and Mary Hanafin Curry; two half brothers, Daniel Curry, Brian Curry; two step sisters, Liz Culloty and her fiancé, Pat Mahoney, Eileen Culloty; two brother in laws, William Edwards, Benjamin (Theresa) Edwards; his in laws, Keith (Mary) Edwards, Harriet (William) Hutton; and nieces and nephews, Declan McCabe, Mariah Culloty, Zachary, Makayla, and Alexia Edwards, and Timothy and Khloe Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Family and friends will be received from 6-9 pm on Thursday and from 2-8 pm on Friday at the New Beaver Borough Volunteer Fire Department. A Memorial Service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at the Fire Department on Saturday at 9:30 am. Following the services a memorial dinner will be held and then Jim will ride one last time on a fire truck for a graveside service at Northside Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Services will include a bagpiper and the Fire Honor Guard.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home, Wampum.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the funeral home to help cover expenses.
