Janice McKeough Kellner Zikeli, 87, of Sunset Blvd, Ellwood City, and most recently at Elmcroft of Chippewa and Providence Care Center, Beaver Falls, passed away in the arms of her family on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.
Janice was born on January 2, 1930, in Ellwood City. She was the daughter of the late John McKeough and Clarinda Cole McKeough, and had the honor to be the first baby of the New Year in 1930. Janice is survived by her current husband, Edward P. Zikeli, who she married on May 20, 2000. They had a happy love story and took care of each other for the past 17 years.
Janice graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. She worked at US Steel / Ellwood City Tube from 1948-1954. It was there that she met August Bernard Kellner, her first husband, who she married in September 1954. She settled into a happy life as a wife and mother, raising four children. She was active in the church, at Bell Memorial, Knox Presbyterian, Christ Presbyterian, and St. Agatha’s. She volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels. She was very active in the Ellwood City Women’s Club, serving as president more than once over the years. She also was one of the organizers of the U.S. Steel women’s luncheon that was held for many years in Ellwood City. She also cared for children, with a stint at Parent’s Preschool, and as a long term babysitter to David Marshall and Contrucci children. In recent years, she was also a Judge of Elections in Ward 5, Ellwood City. When August died in 1968, she learned to drive and took her children on many wonderful vacations. In her later years, she and Edward loved to travel.
In addition to Edward, Janice’s survivors include her children, Marjorie Kellner Taglieri (Vince) of Irwin PA; Katherine Jane Kellner, of Shillington, PA; Linda Ann Kellner, of Woodbridge, VA, and Michael August Kellner of Ellwood City, PA. She has two grandchildren: Jessica Taglieri Hoover (Neil) of New Stanton and Lauren Taglieri Novak (John) of Washington, DC. She has one great grandson, Hunter Hoover. She was also preceded in death by her sister Jean, in 1994, and by her second husband, William Joseph Smith, in 1985.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 26th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. Friends and family will also be received at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Reverend Elizabeth Wallace, of Christ Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
