Joanne L. Marich

Joanne Lucille Marich (Jaillet) died peacefully at home in Warner Springs, California at the age of 87.
Joanne is survived by her husband Edward Gabriel Marich (Ed – age 91) of Warner Springs, CA; children, Carol Ann Wright of Temecula, CA and James Edward Marich (Jim) of San Diego, CA; siblings, Wallace Arthur Jaillet, Warrenton, MO and Wayne Albert Jaillet, Mercer, PA; and two granddaughters, Morgan Leigh Wright and MacKenna Anne Wright of Temecula, CA.
Joanne was born on February 14, 1933 (Valentine’s Day) in Coolspring Township, Sharon, PA to Albert Jefferson Jaillet and Clara Lucille Jaillet (Gilliland). She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Nursing School in 1954 with a Diploma in Nursing. She met Ed at a party hosted by her fellow nursing students in 1955 and married him in 1956. Joanne began her career as a public health nurse in Pittsburgh and then as a school nurse for the North Pittsburgh public school system. During her career, she applied her empathetic and compassionate nursing skills as a public health nurse, a school nurse, provided private duty care to patients in their homes, was the Director of Nursing at a skilled nursing care facility in Virginia and finished her career as the assistant to Head of the Cardiology Department for the US State Department.
Joanne and Ed lived across the southwestern United States and enjoyed traveling around the US before settling down in the countryside of northern Virginia in 1972. Always passionate about the natural environment, Joanne took her family hiking and camping, participated in scouting, and instilled an appreciation of the natural world in her children. An avid master gardener, Joanne was a founding member of the Warrenton VA farmers market in the 1975. A visionary to the fresh food movement, she managed up to three growing grounds for her vegetables, raised chickens (sometimes other farm animals) and, without fail, stayed up all night the day before the market to prepare baked goods that were often purchased before she could set up her stall. Joanne’s appreciation and interest in history and historical items was passed onto her son Jim who realized her dream of living in an historical home. Her empathy and care of others was passed onto her daughter who, likewise, became a registered nurse. Her granddaughter Morgan is pursuing a career in nursing as well.
After retirement and the departure of the children from the nest, Joanne and Ed enjoyed traveling in Europe, the Caribbean and South Pacific. In her later years, she and her husband purchased a home in Southern California to be closer to their children and to bake in the sun.
Joanne spent her life in pursuit of new and varied experiences, enriching the lives of her family and friends. She emphasized learning and introduced her children to arts and culture. She passed on her passion of the world around her and will always be remembered for her love of the human experience.
Due to the pandemic, a funeral is postponed until such time as it is safe for family and friends to gather together to remember and celebrate her life.
