John Boariu Jr., 86, of Ellwood City passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Avalon Nursing Center following an extended illness.
Born August 3, 1932 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late John and Eugenia Luca Boariu Sr.. He was married for 65 years to Yvonne Weller Boariu who survives.
John graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950 and served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as the Maintenance Supervisor for Babcock and Wilcox and then for the former Quality Rolls in New Castle. He was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church. John was also a member of the Ellwood City Moose Club and the Hungarian Home. He served on the Ellwood City After-Prom Committee from 1973-1985.
In addition to his wife, Vonnie, survivors include three sons, Terry “Turk” (Trisha) Boariu, Randall “Roach” (Fran) Boariu, Ronald “Beads” (Johanna) Boariu, all of Ellwood City; one daughter, Lisa (Don) Gatlin of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Nick (Blodwyn) Boariu and Denny (Mary Ann) Boariu, both of Ellwood City; and 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother, Florence and brothers, Emil and Frank Boariu.
Private visitation and services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Marshall Funeral Home, Ellwood City. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Final interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
