John E. Snowden Jr.,83, of Country Club Drive, Ellwood City (North Sewickley Twp.) died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born November 23, 1930 in New Brighton, he was the son of the late John E. and Ruth Ritter Snowden Sr. He was first married on April 13, 1957 to Anna Mae Herrmann Snowden, who passed away March 12, 1999. He is survived by his current wife, Patricia Alberth Snowden, whom he married in August of 2001.
Jack retired in 1992 from Westinghouse Corporation. Following his retirement, he continued working at the Butler Auto Auction for 16 years. He was an active member of the Concord United Methodist Church. Jack was a member of “Men of Melody” singing group. He was a Veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War. He served in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Theatres on the USS Arnett and the USS Marquette. Jack was active with American Legion Post #19 in New Brighton. He was also a longtime Boy Scout Master with Troop 452 who met at the Concord Church. Jack enjoyed running, swimming and ballroom dancing.
In addition to his wife, Pat, survivors include; four daughters, Diane Terry of Ellwood City, RuthAnne (Kenneth) Frederick of Harmony, Karen (Paul) Hunter of Enon Valley, Carol (Allen) Bowman of Texas, one son, David (Lynn) Snowden of Ellwood City, step daughter, Lisa (Larry) Brown of New York, NY; step son, Chris (Angela) Alberth of Fombell; sister, Molly Walsh of New Brighton, brother, Alford Snowden of Missouri, two sister in laws, Joyce Snowden of Greenville, Hope Snowden of Florida; brother in law, Roy Herrmann of Sandy Lake; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren, ;
He was preceded in death by parents, first wife, sister, Naomi Taylor and two brothers, Robert and Donald Snowden
Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday May 7 and from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 8 at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Friends will also be received from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 am on Friday at the Concord United Methodist Church. His pastor, Rev. Bradley Neel will be officiating.
Interment will follow in the Concord Church Cemetery.
