John Robert "Bobby" Powell, 82, of New Beaver Borough passed away suddenly on Monday, January 20, 2025 as a result of an automobile accident.
Bobby was born on December 18, 1942 in Ellwood City, to the late Frank A. and Helen V. (Butkevitz) Powell of Chewton. Bobby graduated from Wampum High School in 1961 and worked for many years at Koppel Steel and B&W.
He is survived by his sisters, JoAnn Takas of Chippewa and Connie Buchanan of Ellwood City. He also leaves his nieces, Coreen Rozgonyi of Hermitage, Robbin Catanese of Bainbridge, OH, and Jodi Buchanan of Chewton along with great nieces and nephews, Caitlin Beckert, Hannah Rogan, Cole, Hope, and Grace Morris, Nicholas and Logan Jones, and Jimmy Buchanan. Bobby also leaves his great-great nephew Noah Beckert.
In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by many other family members, friends, and neighbors. Bobby was particularly fond of his cousins Colleen Shotts and Kellie Cercone who he looked forward to visiting and sharing a meal with whenever Colleen would come to town. Bobby enjoyed his daily visits at the home of his neighbors Andy and Joan where the three would faithfully gather to watch The Price is Right. Bobby was a foodie and nothing made him happier than sharing his love of food by having a meal while spending time with those he loved. Bobby also had a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors and taking long walks, especially along the railroad tracks, as he loved trains.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard "Ricky" Powell of Chewton who passed on August 1, 2012.
As per the family's wishes there will be no visitation. Memorial contributions in Bobby's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
Bobby's family would like to extend a special thank you to all the first responders at the scene and the medical staff at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown who attended to him in his final hours.
