Judy Bender, 66, of S. River Rd. Ellwood City (Franklin Twp.) died on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Ellwood City Hospital following a brief illness.

Born June 2, 1945 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Virgil A. and Dorothy Blanche Chapman Newton.

She was married to Frederick M. Bender Jr. who survives.

Judy had formerly worked at the Ellwood City Knitting Mill, Kimpel’s Bakery and the Kwik-Fill Station. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. She was affiliated with the Providence Baptist Church where she assisted in their Vacation Bible School. Judy was a member of the Tuesday Morning Koffee Klatch and the Thursday Night Hits and Misses Bowling League. She was also an avid bingo player.

In addition to her husband, Fred, she is survived by three sons – Tom (Heidi) Beeler of Ellwood City, Tim Beeler of New Castle, Dave (Kari) Bender of Fombell; seven grandchildren – Josh Davis, Darryl Main, Austin Beeler, Taylor Beeler, Lee-Ann Beeler, Jax Bender, Avalee Bender; four sisters – Joyce (Ronald) Kraynak, Emily Weaver, Roxanne (Randy) Gwilt, all of Ellwood City, Charlene (Ted) Bohizic of Hyde Park, NY; and two brothers – Leonard (Mary) Newton of Fairfield, PA, Russell (Carol) Herko of New Galilee.

She was preceded in death by two nephews – Danny Lumley and Jeff Campbell.

Visiting hours will be held from 7 -9 on Tuesday and from 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Andrew Pepe officiating.

Interment will follow in Slippery Rock Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Providence Baptist Church, 201 Chapel Dr. Ellwood City, PA 16117.
