Katherine “Katie” S. Johns, 90, of Wayne Township passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Northview Estates.

Born May 31, 1926 in Ellwood City, she was the eldest daughter of the late George and Katharina Szegedi Paul. She was married for 35 years to W. Ray Johns when he passed away May 2, 1984.

Katie graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. She had formerly worked at the Savings and Trust Bank in Beaver Falls, Calgon Corporation, the Connoquenessing Country Club, Christy’s Restaurant, and the Holiday Inn in Beaver Falls. She was a member of the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. Katie was one of the founding members of the Ellwood City Civic Chorale and enjoyed singing with the Chorale for over 50 years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and often delighted those who loved her with amusing stories of her various antics. Katie enjoyed playing bingo, quilting, and traveling, but her most cherished time was spent with family.

Survivors include four daughters, Kathy (John) Terlecky of Vienna, Ohio, Barbara Harris of Poland, Ohio, Susan (Gary) Abla of Bellevue, Nebraska, Sandy (Domenic) Pisani of Chewton; son, Ray (Noreen) Johns of Wampum; son-in-law, Greg Margerum of Myersville, Maryland; two sisters, Dorothy (John) Maley of Frederick, Maryland, Helen (Bob) Crawford of Beaver Falls, a brother, George (Marge) Paul of Port Clinton, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty two great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Margerum on April 2, 2012, and son- in-law, William H. Harris on March 27, 2007 .

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 7 from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service at 4 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St. Wampum. Her pastor, Rev. Julia Williamson will officiate the service.  Interment will take place at the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ellwood City Civic Chorale, Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church or the donor’s favorite charity.
