Kenneth Jerome Johnson Sr.

Kenneth Jerome Johnson Sr., known as “Saul” by his close friends, passed away early Tuesday morning June 18, 2013 following his birthday a day prior.

Born June 17, 1948 in Wampum, he was the son of the late Solomon and Cora Rhodes Johnson.

Kenny was a Mohawk High School graduate where he excelled in basketball. Upon graduation, he went to work for Cemex and following 44 years of service, he retired as a plant supervisor. Saul was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Chewton, serving as a church deacon, treasurer of the usher’s organization and a member of the male chorus.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marlene Dashield Johnson; his loving son, Kenneth (Neva) Johnson Jr. of New Castle; two daughters, Staci Dixon and her children, Tammy Cox and her son. Survivors also include three sisters, Loretta Rhodes of Houston Texas, Shirley Askerneese and Pat Monts, both of Center Twp.; two brothers, Eugene (Geraldine) Johnson of Beaver Falls, Ernest (Carlyn) Johnson of New Castle. Kenny also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren, Amira Johnson, age 8, Khalil Johnson, age 6, and Tayeden Johnson, age 3, all of New Castle and his loving mother in law, Dorothy Stevenson of Ellwood City. He also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Johnson.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday June 21, from 6-8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Chewton on Saturday at 11:00 am with his pastor, Rev. Eric Board officiating. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
