Lois Jean Chappell, 95, of Wampum (formerly of Plant City, Fl.) passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023 at her daughter’s residence after a brief illness.

Born July 21, 1928 in Harmony, she was the daughter of the late Lester L. and Dorothy Sheiver Wehr. She married Howard D. Chappell in 1947. They were married for 59 years when he passed away in 2006.

Lois had graduated from Zelienople High School in 1946. She owned “Country Touches” in Wampum and Zelienople and also worked as a waitress at the Kaufman House in Zelienople. She was a member of the Chewton Christian Church and was honored by the Chewton Fire Department as a founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary. Some of her interests were fishing and decorating, but her most cherished moments were spent with her family.

Survivors include four sons, Doug (Lois) of New Castle, Harold (Vivian) of Salem, OH, Richard and Ron (Dixie) Chappell, both of Wampum; daughter, Karen Goebel of Wampum; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and brother, Roy Wehr of Plant City, FL.

In addition to her parents and husband Howard, she was preceded in death by her son Donnie in 2014; three grandsons, Stephen Goebel, and Jason and Richard Chappell Jr., sister, Mary Alice Kelly, and her brother Robert Wehr.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday December 7, 2023 from 3:00 pm until the Funeral Service at 6:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum. Pastor Tom Litzenberg of the Chewton Christian Church will officiate.

Interment will be in the Slippery Rock Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Chewton Christian Church or the Chewton Fire Department.
